About: Be part of the largest watershed-wide clean-up in the state of Colorado! Creek Week volunteers clean up litter along a creek, trail, park or open space throughout the watershed from Palmer Lake to Pueblo, Falcon to Woodland Park. This weeklong event is a partnership with public, private and non-profit community organizations throughout the Pikes Peak region. UCCS is joining the effort to clean up and preserve the beauty of our local waterways. The Alumni and Friends Association is offering three different volunteer opportunity dates to join the clean-up efforts. Each opportunity is being held in conjunction with students, meaning alumni/friend volunteers will have the chance to volunteer alongside current students.

Time Commitment: Volunteer shifts for the creek week clean ups are two hours, but may be as short as one hour pending attendance numbers.

The opportunity dates are:

Wednesday, September 29 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. (Hosted in partnership with a first-year student course dedicated to business career path exploration.)

Thursday, September 30 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (Hosted in partnership with a first-year student course dedicated to business career path exploration.)

Friday, October 1 from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. (Hosted in partnership with the Reisher scholarship program and Daniels Ethics Fund. Current Reisher scholar and Daniels Fund students will be present.)

Volunteer Expectations: Volunteers are expected to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of their shift time to check in, get trained, and grab gloves and other supplies before starting their volunteer shift.

Qualifications: No minimum qualifications, but volunteers should be willing and able to walk to the creek site, which can be anywhere from one block to 0.5 miles from the meeting/parking spot. Volunteers should be able to comfortably bend to reach for trash and debris.

Impact: Creek Week began in 2014 as a way to encourage citizens to help remove litter and debris from our land and waters, raise awareness of watershed health, and to foster a sense of community. Since then, Creek Week has grown into an annual event that continues to provide an opportunity for communities to give back, to enjoy the parks and trails they are cleaning, and to understand their place in the Fountain Creek Watershed.

Parking Details: Volunteers will meet at University Hall on the UCCS Campus (located at: University Hall, 1420 Austin Bluffs Pkwy, Colorado Springs, CO 80918). The parking lot we will use is called: Lot 100. Alumni and friends will have their parking costs covered for three hours in total as a token of thanks to you for volunteering.

In order for us to cover your parking costs and to avoid being cited with a parking ticket we will provide you with a parking tag to hang on your rearview mirror upon your check-in at the event. Eligibility for a free parking tag closes on September 24th! If you register after that time you will be responsible for your parking costs.  Should you forego picking up and hanging a parking tag or arrive after check-in ends you will be responsible for your parking fees or citations you receive.
