About: Join us for a morning of planting at the UCCS Sustainability House. We will be planting native and low water plants in the front and back yards of the Sustainability House.
BONUS! This volunteer opportunity offers you the chance to learn about native and low water plants and how to keep their costs low by propagating. We’ll also be talking about the species that these plants will attract!
Time Commitment: Volunteers should plan to spend approximately two and half hours at this activity. We ask that volunteers arrive by 9:15 a.m. to get checked in and be ready to start planting at 9:30 a.m.
Qualifications: Volunteers should be comfortable with bending, picking up plant materials and tools like small hand shovels, wheel barrows, buckets, etc. Please be prepared for weather elements like sun, rain, wind, etc. Sunscreen, hats, and closed toe shoes are recommended. Gloves and tools will be provided for volunteers.
Impact: The Sustainability House is a wonderful part of our campus. It serves as a place for us to demonstrate sustainable practices. Helping with this planting project helps us become a more sustainable campus and model sustainable practices for our peers and community members.
Parking:
Please plan to arrive around 9:15/9:20 a.m. to get started at 9:30 a.m. FREE parking is available in LOT 103. If you are coming from the east driving down Austin Bluffs Parkway you will want to take your first right coming up the hill towards campus then you will take an immediate second right on Regents Circle. Lot 103 is your first left turn after that. If you are coming from the west on Austin Bluffs you will want to take that last available left turn to campus (if you miss it you will head towards Union and have to turn around) That left turn will be at the stoplight intersection of Austin Bluffs, Meadow Lane, and Regents Circle. You will take a left on to Regents Circle and enter a roundabout. You will take the first right on the roundabout to go east. From there, cruise down that road, you will pass through. Stop sign intersection, keep going straight and then from there LOT 103 will be your first left after going through that stop sign. A detailed campus map is also attached to this email for reference.
Upon parking in LOT 103, make your way up a set of stairs on the northwest side of the parking lot. We will gather in front of the Sustainability House (tan house at top of stairs/hill). This house looks like a family style home with two car garage. NOTE: If you choose to use Google or Apple Maps to find your way to the house it will take you to the house and not the parking lot. The parking lot is only accessible from Regents Circle NOT from Cragmor Village Road.
